RoboCop

RoboCop is a must-see in any discussion of action movies from the 1980s. Paul Verhoeven’s first Hollywood film is widely considered to be not only a classic among 1980s action films but also one of the sharpest, though most obvious, satires from that time period. Robocop, at its infancy was easy to dismiss as harmless period action. However, the film has gained more importance over the years. It may be an action movie with the superficial qualities we like, but it is in its depths that the wonders of Paul (Updated) Verhoeven’s work are revealed. Looking back at my younger self, I feel like he should be slapped in the face for not seeing this. But RoboCop prepared me to see graphic violence on film which may have contributed to my success.
